Mike Langin Buck

The Langin Buck is clouded in controversy.  This 219 3/8” non-typical deer was taken from Camp Ripley, a National Guard training base in central Minnesota which only allows a short bow season. Only a few hunters each year are selected by a special draw.  Since there is not much hunting pressure on this vast expanse of woods, exceptional deer are often found here.  Mr. Mike Langin was able to capitalize on this situation and bagged this giant buck.  All preliminary scoring pointed to this buck as being the new Minnesota state record for non-typical bow kill! However, a controversy arose as to the proper Boone and Crockett scoring of this deer.  Differences of opinion as to what exactly comprised this deer’s main frame, resulted in a decision to drop several inches of score, thus disqualifying it as the new state record. State record or not, this is still one of Minnesota’s finest non-typical archery deer ever taken.
