Handeland Buck
North Dakota is not widely known as producing trophy whitetails, but this buck changed that reputation with the flash of a gun barrel. Todd only hunts his own land in the Turtle Mountain region of north central North Dakota. While Todd knew of the existence of this deer, he knew it would be a tough hunt, as he didn’t show up on trail cameras and wasn’t seen during the day. Todd committed himself to the hunt, spent 16 days and 16 nights, eating, sleeping, and watching from his elevated tree stand. This buck really made him earn the right to take a shot, as the final, fatal encounter didn’t happen until the last day and the last hour of the 2022 rifle season.
