Johnny King Buck

The morning of November 6, 2006 came early and found Johnny with family and friends already out in a 100 acre woods.  Hearing a noise and turning to look, Johnny saw a flash of white and spied a deer coming quickly near where Johnny’s uncle was waiting.   He took aim at the buck standing on top of a wooded knoll, at about 150 yards out and took a shot.  Even from that distance, Johnny could tell it was a monster. But the deer just kept moving.  Johnny couldn’t tell if he had hit it or not! He crawled through a field of high weeds, keeping low to get closer to the wooded knoll.  Twenty feet, thirty feet, forty feet of crawling and Johnny popped his head up, and took another shot at the buck, still standing amid the trees. Down again, crawling closer and closer through the weeds. Up again, and firing again.  Johnny finally crawled up to a fence line and reached in his pocket for more bullets to reload.  The pocket was empty! They must of fallen out as he struggled through the weeds.  Johnny had only one bullet left in his chamber.  This shot had to count. Amazingly, the buck was still standing on the knoll. Johnny took aim again along the worn sights of the vintage 30/30 and fired. The deer jumped and bolted, but this time Johnny could see that he had been hit. It wasn’t long after, that Johnny had his buck.  It was easily much larger than anyone in his entire party had ever dreamed of seeing.  And two prominent scoring systems agreed!  The Johnny King Buck is the official new Buckmaster’s Perfect Category World Record and Safari Club International #2 All Time Record Deer at 226 6/8”  Unfortunately, a Boone and Crocket scoring controversy denied it claiming the new world record typical title!
